Tech for Good Live and 10GM present: Help a Charity

The pandemic has affected all organisations, and charities are not an exception.  In a short amount of time, charities had to implement social distancing rules, deal with decreasing donations, shift to remote ways of working and develop new ways to continue supporting their target groups. Some charities have been steadily adjusting, others face regular barriers to meeting these new challenges.

Although many organisations have offered information and financial support for the third sector, many charities whose work was predominantly offline, also need digital help with setting up and running their remote and online services.

‘The challenge for many charities in the last few weeks has been the need to undertake digital transformation at breakneck pace. Many charities are doing what they can to keep going, providing support in whatever way they can and making it up as they go along, finding out what works and what doesn’t. By this stage, many now have a good insight into what they need to improve how they can work digitally and what the people they support are looking for – but the other barriers are still the same: capacity, knowledge and resources’. CEO of MACC and Help a Charity project partner, Mike Wild

At Tech for Good Live, we’ve got an amazing community of experts experienced in building websites, running online campaigns, shifting to remote work, developing strategies, assessing data security, building apps and other digital skills. Our community members are regularly offering their time and skills to help organisations who might need it.  We have decided to draw on the community expertise and help local charities of Manchester to deal with the newly emerged issues of moving to the digital sphere.

In partnership with 10GM – a third sector support network in Greater Manchester – Tech for Good Live is launching the Help a Charity project. Help a Charity will connect volunteers with Greater Manchester charities that need digital support.

Here is how it works. If you are a charity and you need support, you can fill in this form and tell us how we can possibly help. If you want to volunteer, you can fill in this form, join our slack channel and the newsletter to stay up to date with charity needs, and connect to other volunteers to form teams.  Check out this page for more details.

If you want to chat to us, please email Harriet at hello@techforgood.live with ‘FAO Harriet - charity help’ in the title.
